Yungblud released the album “Yungblud” and the video for the song “Tissues”
Yungblud released their third album, Yungblud, which is more personal and mellow than their previous albums. According to the musician, he named the record after himself, because this time he tells his own story.
“Yungblud” is the musician’s first studio work in two years. It included the singles “The Funeral”, “Memories”, “Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today” and “Tissues”.
Along with the release, Youngblood posted a music video for the song “Tissues”. It was directed by Charlie Sarsfield, who worked with Stormzy and James Arthur. When creating the track, a beat from The Cure’s “Close to Me” was used – Youngblood received permission personally from the band’s vocalist Robert Smith.
The first reviews have already appeared on “Yungblud”, positive ones prevail so far. The Independent gave the album four points, noting “catchy vocals” and the musician’s inherent talent for storytelling. Youngblood was praised by Wall of Sound as a “self-aware young artist” who draws inspiration from a wide range of sources. Gigwise believes that the record is somewhat inferior to Youngblood’s previous works, but still very good. ClashMusic described the album as “an original and daring comeback” with the best tracks in his career – although this does not apply to all songs, but only to some.
But The Guardian columnist is not enthusiastic about “Yungblud”: in his opinion, the great ambitions of the musician spoil the banal “teenage” lyrics. Far Out Magazine called the record “a portrait of a narcissist” , which, however, should appeal to a teenage audience. Some listeners didn’t like Yungblud either – according to them, Youngblood ‘s previous album, Weird! (2020) was much stronger.
