Wiesmann sports cars are well remembered by car enthusiasts due to their unusual retro design. However, from 1993 to 2013, only about 1,700 unusual roadsters and coupes were produced, after which the German company Wiesmann went bankrupt. In 2016, they tried to revive the brand: an agreement was signed with BMW for the supply of V8 biturbo engines, and two years later even a teaser for the promising model Project Gecko was published , but that was it.
Wiesmann prepares for a renaissance
The main protagonist is the same as six years ago, British-based businessman and investor Rohin Berry. The company Wiesmann GmbH, headed by him, operates under the wing of Contec Global Corporation, and the headquarters in the German Dülmen (North Rhine-Westphalia) was inherited from the original Wiesmann company.
Project Gecko is forgotten, now Project Thunderball is on the agenda. This time there were no murky teasers: the company immediately published photos of the working prototype. Under the camouflage you can easily guess the family proportions and shapes, familiar from the brand’s previous sports cars. But there are no more references to BMW and gasoline engines, but Rohin Berry announced a “revolution” and … “recharge”. Electric Wiesmann? Apparently, yes. The name Thunderball (“ball lightning”) also hints at this. More information should appear soon.
