I am wary of contemporary American authors. Works on-screen adaptation is too calculated. It often feels like you’re reading a script. Yes, and a lot of Chanukah, not to mention other fashion trends. The first lines of the novel did not please me at all. I hear the cracking of the skull before the blood splatters She continued reading with dismay.

smooth-flowing and she was pleasantly surprised. The smooth-flowing text was easy to read and pulled me deeper and deeper into the unsettling atmosphere of the work. Whose merit is here – the author or the translator, I do not know, but I liked the result. It was easy to read, and attention was completely focused on the events and experiences described in the book. And I even wanted to finish reading faster in order to find out the ending.

The characters are not very unique. The main character, although she is not quite the main one, is not a very successful writer with a huge pile of problems. Not a very successful career, a complete financial collapse, depression after long care for a terminally ill mother, and her death. And suddenly, the publisher offers Lowen to finish a series of three novels instead of another author.

The hero is Jeremy, a handsome and mysterious casual acquaintance. It turns out that he is the husband of the same writer. And she. Verity. Each of the trinity has its own problems and dark spots in the soul. In general, the development of the plot is quite predictable. The highlight of the intrigue seems to be Verity’s secret diary. Yes, it is impossible to remain indifferent after her revelations.

It is amazing how the author was able to feel all the darkness that she describes in the book. But maybe she knows what she’s talking about. There is a lot of sex in the book.

For the emotional content of the plot, the intensity of passions – such a move is fully justified. Although, this is an amateur. The ending is ambiguous as planned by the author. A sort of hook at last. In a way, it’s interesting.
