Sam Neill reveals he is being treated for stage 3 blood cancer
Jurassic Park star Sam Neill has revealed that he is currently being treated for stage 3 blood cancer. The actor was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.
In an interview with The Guardian, Sam Neill said that he learned about the disease in 2022, during a press tour on the occasion of the release of the film Jurassic World: Domination. He underwent chemotherapy, but it did not help. Then he was offered one very expensive drug. Neil signed a contract with a pharmaceutical company that if he was alive in four months, the treatment would be free.
Sam Neill must be treated every month for the rest of his life. And the medicine helped the actor, although he felt bad for two days after each day of treatment and did not want to eat. As the actor said, thanks to the drug he is getting better:
“I’m not afraid to die, but it [death] annoys me. Because I would really like to live another decade or two, you know? We have built all these beautiful terraces, we have olive trees and cypresses, and I want to be there to see how everything matures. And I have my beautiful little grandchildren. I want to see them grow up. […]. There is no cancer in my body.”
Neil added that during the Christmas celebration he felt great:
“I have never felt so good, so fabulous to be able to try everything. The wine was great, the food excellent. It was the most wonderful time. I had my family with me, all my grandchildren. It’s just fantastic.”
Sam Neill wrote about the disease in his memoir, Did I Ever Tell You That?, which will be released on March 21.
