Last summer, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed , the premiere of a new car from the revived De Tomaso brand took place, but then company representatives spoke very little about the supercar. It was not even known what kind of engine would be under his hood. However, it so happened that almost all cars of the brand, which turned 60 this year, had Ford engines. And now history repeats itself: the new De Tomaso P72 will be equipped with a Ford V8 engine.

 Mustang

We are talking about a five-liter engine, which is installed on production Ford Mustang GT cars. But for De Tomaso, a version has been prepared, finalized by Roush Performance. Presumably, the supercharged engine will produce the same 720 hp. and 827 Nm, as on the tuning Mustangs, but it is likely that the return will be increased for the P72. In terms of transmission, the De Tomaso will have a six-speed manual.

The manufacturer claims that the car’s engine will comply with environmental standards in the United States and European countries, but fine-tuning has not yet been completed. As stated, one of the main tasks of engineers is to create a special engine sound that will resemble classic old-school American V8s. De Tomaso plans to release a new portion of information about the supercar in a few months, and then, perhaps, we will know about the estimated start of production. Previously, the start of sales was scheduled for 2020.
