Monitor Audio Unveils Hyphn’s Most Advanced Loudspeakers

It became clear to the Monitor Audio designers that they didn’t want to make a big box with lots of circles in the front, so the Hyphn flagship speaker was born. The name translates as “hyphen”. Perhaps this is a kind of “dash” of the mid-high frequency module, uniting two symmetrical vertical cases of each speaker. In architecture, “Heifen” means a link between two large building elements. The capabilities of these systems are indicated by the figures for the recommended power of amplifiers – from 200 to 1,600 watts.

They are well complemented by the declared range of reproducible frequencies with a uterine lower limit of 18 Hz. Monitor Audio Senior Product Designer Emily Hesslegrave said, “Hyphn is meant to be a loudspeaker, both technically and visually. It is also designed for ‘real’ spaces, taking into account and eliminating all of its inherent limitations and compromises.”

Hesslegrave was obviously referring to the 129dB maximum SPL claimed for the Hyphn pair. It is clear that such speakers cannot be small, if only because each has 11 speakers. At almost 140 cm tall, the Hyphn speakers weigh more than 105 kg each. At the same time, according to the standard acoustic classification, Hyphn is a three-way bass reflex.
