Metro Boomin releases ‘Heroes & Villains’ album featuring The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky, and Travis Scott
Metro Boomin presented Heroes & Villains, his first solo album in four years. The recording featured The Weeknd, Travis Scott, John Legend, Future, A$AP Rocky, and 21 Savage.
Metro Boomin also showed a short film of the same name starring Morgan Freeman, Gunna, and Young Thug. The latter also contributed to the songs “Trance” and “Metro Spider”, while Gunna recorded verses for the bonus track “All The Money”.
n addition to the above artists, Takeoff, a member of Migos, who passed away in November at the age of 28, can be heard on Heroes & Villains. Metro Boomin has already worked with Migos – he had a hand in one of the biggest hits, “Bad and Boujee”. In addition to them, Metro Boomin has collaborated with many other musicians, including the aforementioned The Weeknd, Travis Scott, and Future. And with 21 Savage, he even released two collaborative albums: the Savage Mode EP (2016) and Savage Mode II (2020).
The cover of “Heroes & Villains” was inspired by the legendary Pink Floyd album “Wish You Were Here” (1975).
Rap fans are unlikely to be surprised by the star names of the invited guests: Metro Boomin is one of the most sought-after producers in the hip-hop world. But, despite their outstanding achievements, he received his first Grammy nomination only in November 2022 – as one of the co-authors of the Coldplay record “Music Of The Spheres”, claiming the title of “Album of the Year”. Whether he succeeds or not, we will find out on February 5, 2023 – on this day the Grammy awards ceremony will take place.
Heroes & Villains is not just a new studio effort from Metro Boomin, but the second part of a trilogy that began in 2018 with Not All Heroes Wear Capes. According to the musician himself, the sequel turned out even better than the original. And listeners seem to agree with him. Vkontakte writes that Metro Boomin lived up to expectations, while AlbumOfTheYear users praise the “fantastic” production and the excellent work of the guest performers.
