Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider game to be made into new movie and TV series
There will be a whole cinematic universe in the spirit of Marvel.
Amazon will make a film and series based on the cult Tomb Raider series about the adventures of archaeologist Lara Croft. The company has plans for a cinematic universe in the spirit of Marvel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Tomb Raider movie and TV series are already in development. Amazon has big plans for the Tomb Raider franchise. One of Amazon’s biggest projects is looming since the fantasy The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, which cost an estimated $465 million for season 1.
The script for the Tomb Raider series will be written by Fleabag creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Waller-Bridge also worked on the TV series Killing Eve and the James Bond spy thriller No Time to Die. Waller-Bridge is not going to be on the show, so Amazon has yet to find an actress to play Lara Croft. Although Waller-Bridge has already acted in a similar movie, she can be seen in the adventure film “Indiana Jones and the Clock of Doom”, which will be released worldwide on June 30th.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge will not be involved in the new Tomb Raider movie. However, the author turned out to be a big fan of Tomb Raider, so maybe in the end she will enter the film team as well.
Also fans of Tomb Raider are waiting for a new game of the franchise. An anime series based on Tomb Raider is coming to Netflix. The Netflix show will have two seasons.
Lara Croft was played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in past adaptations of Tomb Raider. In the summer of 2022, it became known that the film “Tomb Raider: Lara Croft” with Vikander will not receive a sequel . The cancellation of the sequel is largely due to the fact that Amazon was going to completely restart the franchise.
