Forgetting about the remnants of dignity, professional ethics and simple humanity, the character of Bob Odenkirk makes a decisive and irrevocable choice of his future. Jimmy is finally reborn as a dishonest lawyer Saul Goodman, who is ready, for example, to ruin someone else’s fate for the sake of retribution for personal insults. The incredible creative fantasy of the hero, instead of good goals, goes to the creation of a complex scam, especially inventive in its immorality. Starring Bob Odenkirk is chic in his layered portrayal of Saul Goodman, who has already gone down in series history as one of the most complex and elaborate characters yet.
Watching this transformation is extremely interesting and at the same time sad. It is all the more surprising to realize that Gilligan and Gould managed to create such a long, consistently high-quality and multifaceted work – dramatic, tragic and at times even comical – for the secondary hero of Breaking Bad. After all, Saul Goodman was perceived by many only as a kind of jester in the cruel criminal showdowns of influential people. Better Call Saul is exciting, despite the fact that the subsequent fate of almost all of the leading characters is known. The creators manage to force the viewer to put this knowledge aside and plunge headlong into the deftly twisted ups and downs of the show with its unexpected, tough, sometimes uncompromising plot twists. The authors of the series “Better Call Saul” playfully show how, in certain realities, the light and dark sides of a person take over him. Using the example of Kim Wexler, the scriptwriters demonstrate how a lawyer capable of good and great deeds, under the pernicious influence of a loved one in the person of Jimmy, gives free rein to her own dark principles. Attempts to avoid an unhealthy relationship with the character of Odenkirk are replaced by a special rapture from a joint intricate machination. Ray Seahorn does a great job of playing this moral downfall, and a small but important flashback helps subtly reveal the nature of Kim’s trait.
As Saul and Kim make a dramatic moral dive, Fring and Salamanca’s criminal rivalry is at stake. This storyline remains exceptionally serious and gritty against the backdrop of Jimmy’s adventurous tragicomic story. Nacho Varga, Mike Ehrmantraut, Gus Fring and Lalo Salamanca are an amazingly diverse bunch of bad guys, each of which reveals a completely unique type of character.

Written and directed, Better Call Saul continues to honor the iconic show Breaking Bad. At the same time, the series remains a self-sufficient work with its own accents – for example, a tragicomic shade of the protagonist’s storyline. Gorgeous character work and attention to detail and nuance make the project as special as its predecessor.
Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould brought Better Call Saul to a close in the best possible way. The well-crafted moral fall of a talented adventurer is reaching its final stage, and the tough criminal showdowns are reaching a boiling point. To realize that this summer the brainchild of Gilligan and Gould will be completed is sad. But everything has its end, even such a great work as Better Call Saul.
Part 2 (Episode 8) of Season 6 of Better Call Saul will premiere on July 11, with the final Episode 13 airing on August 15.
