Dubai Police Hoverbikes
The California-based Russian company Hoversurf has fulfilled its obligations to the Dubai Police Department and delivered the first mass-produced hoverbikes – electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles (or eVTOLs). The latest development of the company was presented at the GITEX exhibition under the name S3 2019 Hoverbike.
The model is a single frame made of carbon with built-in four engines with a capacity of 30 kW each, which are powered by an INR hybrid battery with a capacity of 12.3 kWh. Fast charging takes 2.5 hours without turning off the batteries. The structure, weighing 114 kg, is lifted into the air by three-bladed propellers, creating a total thrust of 364 kg.
The S3 Hoverbike can stay in the air for up to 40 minutes and the actual flight time with a pilot is between 10 and 25 minutes depending on its weight and flight conditions. The maximum travel speed is 96 km / h and is limited by the legal framework, and not by the technical capabilities of the hoverbike. The manufacturer recommends flying at a height of about five meters above the ground, but you can set the height limit manually.
The length of the structure is less than two meters, which allows it to be carried into any room through a standard doorway. To take off a hoverbike, the area of u200bu200bthe usual parking space is enough.
Khalid Nasser Alazouki, CEO of Dubai Police AI Division , told CNN in an interview , two crews are now being trained on the S3 Hoverbike. By 2020, hoverbikes will carry as many police officers as they want to use them. There are no restrictions on the purchase of aircraft at their price of $150,000, the only problem is the desire to fly them. From the point of view of the creators, the pilot must ride a motorcycle and understand the principles of controlling quadcopters. The Dubai Police plan to use hoverbikes for the fastest possible access to hard-to-reach places and to better manage traffic.
In addition to the Dubai police, anyone in the United States can get a hoverbike – a license for their civilian use has already been issued by the United States Federal Aviation Agency (FAA). All you have to do is spend $10,000 on a reservation, wait 2-6 months, and possibly pass a management exam.
