Arctic Monkeys
Arctic Monkeys have shared information about their long-awaited seventh album. It was called “The Car” and will be released on October 21st.
The tracklist for “The Car” will consist of ten tracks. No official singles have been released yet, but on August 23 the musicians performed the song “I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am” at the Zurich Openair festival in the Swiss city of Zurich.
There is also a press release:
“[On the album] Arctic Monkeys break into a new, opulent musical landscape. It has some of the brightest and most prolific vocals of [the band’s frontman] Alex Turner’s career.”
In an interview with Big Issue, Turner promised that there would be no science fiction in the new songs, as the band was “back on Earth” :
“I think we’re closer to a better version of a more dynamic, all-encompassing sound on this album. String parts appear and disappear, it was a conscious step. Hope everything has its place. There are moments when the band comes forward and then the strings come forward.”
According to the musician, “The Car” can be associated with 2002 – the time when the Arctic Monkeys were just starting their careers and acted “on pure instinct”.
The material was produced by James Ford, a former member of Simian Mobile Disco, and The Last Shadow Puppets, Turner’s side project. He has worked with Gorillaz, Depeche Mode, Foals and Florence, and the Machine. Song recording took place in Suffolk, Paris, and London.
“The Car” will be the first Arctic Monkeys album in four years. Their latest album to date , Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, was released in May 2018.
