‘Black Adam’ star Dwayne Johnson explains the meaning of Black Adam’s name

And revealed the real name of the hero.

Dwayne Johnson, the star of the upcoming DC movie comic Black Adam, explained the meaning of Black Adam’s superhero name.

According to the plot, Black Adam was born in ancient times. In the distant past, the hero was a slave. After some events, he lost his loved ones. Then, under some circumstances, Adam was reborn and became superman. And then the hero took the name of Black Adam.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that before being reincarnated as Black Adam, the hero’s name was Teth-Adam. The antihero has the same name in DC comics. And as Skala added, Black Adam’s name alludes to the state of mind of the hero:

“The real name of Black Adam is Teth-Adam. And “Black” in “Black Adam” means the state of his soul.”

In the film, Black Adam’s homeland will be Egypt – instead of the fictional Middle Eastern kingdom of Kandak from the comics. And flashbacks to ancient Egypt will explain why Adam became a ruthless and embittered warrior. Johnson noted that the film does not justify the cruelty of Black Adam, but explains why he became so:

“It [the dark history of the Black Adam family] is something universal that everyone understands. It doesn’t matter what color you are, what religion you have, how much money you have in your bank account, where you live or what kind of job you have. Everyone is tempted to do whatever it takes to protect their family. And when you are taken away from your family, it can change you.”

Recall that according to the plot, Black Adam will be in stasis for many years. In the modern world, the hero will be awakened to help the superhero team of the Justice Society of America save the world from a certain threat.

Jaume Collet-Serra’s Black Adam is slated to premiere on October 20.
