smart watches

Exactly a year ago, we tested a very interesting smart watch from the well- known Chinese manufacturer of wearable electronics Amazfit . The Amazfit T-Rex model is one of the few on the market that can boast of compliance with the US military standard MIL-STD-810G, which determines the resistance of the device to various external influences. A year later, our test lab received an updated model of this watch, in the name of which the word “Pro” appeared.

Review of smart watches Amazfit T-Rex Pro: they will withstand everything!

The Amazfit T-Rex Pro has become even more resistant to harsh environments, and also received additional sensors, training modes and body analysis functions that the first generation watch lacked. But the motto under which the novelty is produced has remained the same: “Give free rein to your instincts!”

The table of specifications for comparison contains data for both the new model, Amazfit T-Rex Pro, and the previous generation watch, Amazfit T-Rex. At first glance, there are not so many changes, but they are, and very significant. The complemented set of built-in sensors immediately catches the eye. While testing the previous version, we notedthat adventure watches should have a barometric altimeter in their arsenal, without which it will simply not be possible to accurately determine the current altitude or climb and descent values. The Amazfit T-Rex Pro model has a barometer. A three-axis gyroscope appeared along with it, completely covering all the needs of any adventurer. It is partly due to the full set of built-in sensors that these watches owe the presence of more than a hundred training modes and a number of analytical algorithms, which we will talk about a little later.
For now, we add that the Amazfit T-Rex Pro uses an updated development of Huami – BioTracker 2 as an optical heart rate sensor. This is a photoplethysmographic optical sensor, on the basis of which the new algorithms for measuring blood oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ), calculating the PAI activity index, stress levels and various sleep parameters.
Another difference between the novelty and the Amazfit T-Rex watch is that it recognizes the signal not only from GPS and GLONASS satellites, but also from BeiDou and Galileo, which makes positioning more accurate and, possibly, more economical in terms of energy costs. This theory is also confirmed by the declared operating time with the included satellite tracker, which is now not 20, but all 40 hours. It is likely that the manufacturer also lowered the polling frequency in order to achieve such a very outstanding result.
As for external data, here Amazfit T-Rex Pro is not much different from the Amazfit T-Rex model. Most likely, the manufacturer did not change anything at all in this case, but over the course of the year it conducted a number of additional tests and received new certificates of compliance with resistance to various external influencing factors according to the US military standard MIL-STD-810G from 2014. Three more have been added to the twelve already existing certificates. Most importantly, Amazfit T-Rex Pro received 10 ATM certification instead of the current 5 ATM. The manufacturer allows not only to swim with the watch, but also to dive under water. Without movement, the novelty can withstand immersion under water to a depth of one hundred meters! But still, it’s better not to get carried away: having developed a high speed under water, you can even at a relatively shallow depth get a decent pressure on the hull, which can be higher than permissible. Scuba diving with Amazfit T-Rex Pro is probably not worth it. But with a mask and snorkel – easily! It is unlikely that for the same price you will find any smartwatch with a similar waterproof rating.
